Last night I had a very important revelation. I will confess that when I thought of God, I would picture myself sitting beside Him in heavenly places. I would see us perched together on a swing, looking down at the world. Scripture says that we believers are seated with Him in heavenly places. (Ephesians 2:6) See also Part 5-3.
I finally realized that this picture of my buddy God, my personal God, was actually hindering me. In order to do the things that He wants me to do, I need to see Him as He really is – powerful, majestic, creator of the universe and all that is in it. I need to be bowing down before His throne, filled with wonder and awe. He is a big God! In His presence I would be prostrate and paralyzed as were those of old.
We have Jesus’ commission and His power to do what He did on earth and more – heal the sick, perform miracles, cast out devils, etc. That is truly amazing. But we can’t do many things that Father God does through His Holy Spirit. He is omniscient (all powerful), omnipresent (everywhere at once). He hears every prayer and comforts all those who mourn. He loves everyone with an everlasting love. We have to work at loving the few around us.
When I start to picture Him as He truly is, on His throne in all His glory, I start to see the One I serve. I see that He has no limits and no boundaries, and He wants to use me ???
When I am next to a God who is my size, I don’t see my true potential, But when I am serving the true image of God and have His authority, how can I lose? I begin to know that nothing is impossible for those who love Him and walk according to His purpose.
Father God:
Help me to see You and recognize You
Both as a friend and as the Creator of the Universe.
Help me to know You in power and in grace as
One who is willing to use us, mere people, for Your glory…
To accomplish Your purposes here on earth.
Use me, Lord, I am willing.
AMEN!
